Nexradix™ 1.14 Released!

Nexradix 1.14 has finally been officially released, and is available for download or purchase.

Release Summary:

Nexradix™ is now released as a DVD image, instead of a CD. This allows us to integrate a variety of new packages without having to focus exclusively on the size of the disc image. We are considering creating a separate minimal installation CD version in the future, depending on user feedback.

The Nexradix™ disc now has a "graphical" boot menu, and the ability to use OEM mode on either a direct install or Live demo mode.

An easy to use guest session mode has been added, allowing you to quickly place you system into a "locked down" status for usage by guests or other temporary users.

A new graphical utility to create bootable USB flash drives from a Nexradix™ DVD or ISO image is included by default.

A "quick search" feature has been added to Synaptic Package Manager, allowing the package list to automatically filter itself as you enter a query into the quick search box.

OpenOffice.org has been upgraded to version 3.01 -- improving the ability to open and manipulate Office 2007 documents and providing a variety of performance enhancements.

A variety of command-line tools have been added to aid in backup and system rescue tasks. These tools will become the basis of a "nexradix-rescue" package that is currently in development for a future release.

We've added a brand new feature exclusive to Nexradix™ that allows oem system builders easily customize the look and feel of the default user interface. To use this feature, simply create a user named "oem" (or install in OEM mode). Log into the system under this user, and make any customizations you require. Log off, then back on as the oem user, and from that time on, all future user accounts will be created using your customized settings.

Nexradix™ 1.11 Bugfix Update Released

Unfortunately, there was a major bug in Nexradix™ 1.10 that made printing more or less impossible without updating several packages manually.  As part of fixing this bug, we've released version 1.11, in which normal printing operations have been restored.

Since the printing issue is the only thing changed from version 1.10 to 1.11, we aren't going to post a full ISO image.  Instead, we'll take this opportunity to debut the first incarnation of the nexradix-upgrade package -- a graphical tool to upgrade to the newest version of Nexradix.  It will be supported in all future versions of Nexradix™ as the primary way of upgrading between versions.

The nexradix-upgrade package currently only supports version 1.10 and above. For a variety of reasons, we've decided not to create an upgrade utility for version 1.00.

Click here to download the nexradix-upgrade package.  After installing the package, run the upgrade utiltiy via the desktop icon or menu item to upgrade to 1.11.
